"ON RECORD", Unicorn Times, August 1980, Howard S.M. Wuelfing (Washington, DC)
BOMIS PRENDIN's latest 10-inch lp, Phantom Limb (Artifacts, A/y 5) is a prime example of the good effects public neglect can produce. Last year's Test was a relatively self-indulgent jumble of inchoate doodlings. This, however, belies a vison and methodology that could easily develop into something of exceptional beauty and power.
Like some trendy European outfits--Throbbing Gristle, Cabaret Voltaire, etc.-- they deal heavily in texture, sound effect (sic) and mood. A lot of their impact comes from their use of novel sounds--weird timbres, subtle distortion and suchlike. In addition, they seem to enjoy expanding on happenstance--developing and refining the accidental into the innovative.
